FEATURING:  Marina Claire, Moti Tavassoli, and Sara Janti

Marina Claire:

Marina's work is a constant manipulation of the physical: metal, paint, ink, and bodies. Plato’s inquiries into the timeless perfection of imagined geometric shapes, and into how geometries might lie behind all nature, inspire her to make objects that (though necessarily imperfect because they will never have perfect straight edges, and must eventually erode) tease our minds toward the perfect. The objects she makes — always imperfectly embodying perfection — ask viewers to drift within that gap between the non-physical, conceptual realm and our tangible, sensory experience.

Moti Tavassoli:

Moti is a Persian American LA-based artist working in painting, sculpture, and installation with a background in architecture and pattern design.

Having grown up in Tehran and LA, Moti belongs to both and neither. Two wildly different cultures, two vast metropolises, and infinite ways to feel without roots, she creates her world of belonging and peace. Filled with natural motifs, these are visual and tactile stories of places where borders dissolve, natural laws bend, and the material world becomes fluid and symbolic

Sara Janti:

Sara is an Iranian American mixed media artist and jewelry designer who currently lives and works in Southern California.

Her recent works explore her personal stories of life and experiences as an Iranian woman who lives far from home.

Influenced by recent movements in Iran and by Iranian women leading the movement, she has combined images from ancient Iranian artifacts and self-portraits to unveil a series of works depicting Iranian women fighting for their basic human rights.

Her mixed media pieces are a reflection of the current status of what is happening and how it is affecting lives.
