Art Share L.A. presents Afterglow, curated by Abby Breuner. Presented as part of Art Share L.A.’s Emerging Curator Program, the exhibition reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting and elevating emerging curatorial voices within the Los Angeles arts community.

The Emerging Curator Program provides selected curators with the opportunity to research, develop, and present a thematic exhibition in a professional gallery setting. Through institutional support and public presentation, the program fosters rigorous curatorial practice while expanding visibility for local and regional artists.

Afterglow is a group exhibition bringing together Los Angeles–based contemporary artists whose work explores how light shapes the way Los Angeles is perceived and the way it is imagined. Spanning representational and abstract painting, collage, textile work, and mixed media, the exhibition considers light as both subject and sensation. The show draws on an appreciation for the West Coast and its artistic legacy, from the Light and Space movement to the subtler tradition of atmospheric painting, moving fluidly between muted, hazy palettes and bold, saturated color. 

Much of this sensibility takes root in curator Abby Breuner’s own history growing up by the ocean, immersed in the particular quality of coastal light. That perspective threads through the show’s abstraction, capturing the many moods of Los Angeles light: the hazy gray of June Gloom, the spectacle of a coastal sunset, and the scattered glow of the city at night.

Grounded primarily in abstraction, the works in Afterglow reference light both literally and figuratively, offering a kaleidoscopic view of a city that is felt as much as it is observed.

Emerging Curator Bio:
Abby Breuner is an independent curator and arts professional based in Los Angeles. She currently works at William Turner Gallery in Santa Monica, where she supports the gallery’s exhibition programming. Breuner holds a B.A. in Studio Art with a minor in Art History from the University of California, Davis, grounding her curatorial practice in both artistic production and historical scholarship.
 

The exhibition opens October 2, 2026, and remains on view through January 2, 2027.
